**From 1985 to 89:
When I was 19, I left Rio and relocated to São Paulo, Brazil. There I began my professional career as Artist. I did that after
graduating from a two-year Art Program (at the Severus Art
Gallery).
I debuted in a popular city square (Plaça da Republica) where I used to display my artwork on the sidewalk. I was one of the many emerging
-and also veteran- Artists who would exhibit there regularly.

**From 1978 to 85
Since childhood I had a strong inclination for painting and drawing. I was on my early teens when neighbors
would ask permission to my parents to
let me paint their hand-made balloons. I loved the notoriety that ‘balão’ painters enjoyed in the neighborhood.
As it is well known, in Brazil (and especially in Rio) there is a tremendous popular interest in the colorful hot-air balloons
("Festival de
Balão"). This folkloric interest stays alive today, although has changed
somewhat in the last two decades. The old-fashion way of building these balloons has been declared illegal (due to the accidental forest fires that occasionally
were caused by these
candle-containing wind-driven hot-air balloons). Balloons are these days made of
colorful paper, which does not need to be painted
anymore.

**In 1965:
I was born in São Gonçalo, a working class suburb of Rio de Janeiro. My father, was
Moaçyr de-Aguiar-e-Souza (a Brazilian merchant-marine).
He died of a heart attack when I was 15. My mother is Maria Luiza Ribeiro-e-Souza.
When my father was alive my mother used to get pregnant, almost methodically, every 18 months.
They procreated 14 children. I was the 13th. It was not religion or
ignorance, they just loved children. She was busy taking care of all of us,
and we all helped her with the house chores. I had 8 sisters and 5
brothers.
Oh! Another thing.. at insistence
of my father, the names of all my brothers and of
all my sisters start with the letter 'M'.
I lost my lovely sister
Marilza
when I was 21. We were very close!
I
dedicate these pages to her memory.
